On October 1 Chapin swimming squared off with Dutch Fork and Irmo to determine who rules the pool in D5. Chapin settled the score with a 175 to 161 victory over Dutch Fork and a 185 to 149 victory over Irmo.

Chapin girls broke two all-time school records. Catherine Bendziewicz broke the 200 IM record and holds 7 out of 8 individual all time school records for Chapin swimming. The girls 200 Free relay with Catherine Bendziewicz, Emily Gleaton, Cindy Spence, and Alexa Ussery claimed the new school record in that event.

It was a great night for Chapin swimming. Other top races included Denise Shealy winning the 200 and 500 Free, Catherine Benziewicz winning the 100 Fly, and Emily Gleaton winning the 100 Free. The girls 200 and 400 Free relay team came in first in both races sealing the victory for Chapin.

Our Chapin boys were faced with very tough competition from the Silver Foxes and Yellow Jackets. They fought for every point to the finish and did score what we needed to put Chapin on top overall. Our best finishes for the boys were Jack Tenbrunsel 3rd in the 200 IM and 100 Breast, Warren Coppage 3rd in the 100 Fly, and Will Tenbrunsel 3rd in the100 Back.

Chapin Swimming will be competing in the 3A State Championship meet on October 11 at USC Sol Blatt pool.

Chapin swimmers fought hard for every point against Dreher. When the pool settled down and the count came in, it was a Chapin victory with 170 points to Dresher’s 167. Our girls outswam Dreher taking first in 5 out of 8 individual events. Catherine Bendziewicz led the way with double victories in the 200 IM and 100 Back. Our other first place girls were Emily Gleaton in the 50 Free, Alexa Ussery in the 100 Fly, and Denise Shealy in the 400 Free. The 200 and 400 Free relay team with Alexa Ussery, Cindy Spence, Emily Gleaton and Catherine Bendziewicz sealed the victory over Dreher with first place finishes in both races.

Our boys were not able to score the big points needed to beat the Dreher boys, but we had the points to pull off the final combined victory. Our leading swims were Warren Coppage with a 2nd place in the 200 IM and 100 Fly, Alec Dixon 2nd in the 50 and 100 Free, and Grant Tomlin 2nd in the 400 Free.

It was Senior Class night for the Swimming Eagles, with a special recognition for the 2015 graduating class.
